Parental Permission for Accompanying Minors

Occupational Health

The unit fulfils a clinical function in the field of Occupational Medicine and the adjectival term ‘Medicine’ inserted in its title emphasizes this fact (and also distinguishes it from the later-established Occupational Health and Safety Authority).

Pharmacy Services

There are two pharmacies that fall under the remit of the Primary Health Care Department: Floriana Pharmacy and -Paola Pharmacy. These pharmacies are situated within the respective Health Centre.

Primary Health Care, Physiotherapists treat patients with physical problems caused by musculoskeletal conditions and provide a holistic approach to maximise the patient's functional potential

Port-a-Cath Service

A Port-a -Cath is inserted in patients who require long term treatment for health conditions that involve oncology and haematology

Practice Nurse Unit

The Practice Nurse Unit within the Primary HealthCare provides educational opportunities for all Primary HealthCare professionals to update their knowledge and skills

Social Worker Service

General Practitioners and all Allied Health Care, Nursing and Pharmacy professionals carrying out clinical duties working in the appointment and walk-in clinics within the Primary Health Care Department can refer to this clinic

Specialist Training Programme In Family Medicine

Specialist Training in Family Medicine in Malta takes place under the auspices of the government’s Primary HealthCare Department, with the Malta College of Family Doctors responsible for ensuring the quality of academic training and assessment.

Speech Language Pathology

Speech language pathologists offer services to both children and adults. They assess, diagnose, indicate prognosis and prepare treatment programmes related to problems of communication

Telemedicine

The Primary Health Care Telemedicine and Client Support Centre offers 24/7 services. Doctors provide general medical advice in the form of remote telephone and video consultations, addressing all health needs accordingly. Client support agents help guide clients in accessing all available community services.

The Primary Child & Youth Health & Immunisation Unit

  • The National Immunisation Service (NIS) offers all vaccines on the Maltese National schedule to children and adults aged 65+, as well as a travel clinic whereby people planning to travel abroad can access travel health information and access travel related vaccinations. The NIS also liaises with secondary care and public health to carry out vaccination interventions in special cohorts of patients and run national vaccination campaigns.
  • The Well Baby Clinic (WBC) serves the purpose of clinical examination and early developmental assessments of babies and infants during three routine visits carried out at 8-12 weeks, 8 months and 18 months of age.
  • The Parent and Baby Primary Health Support Clinic offers a midwife-led service which provides support to parents during the first weeks following childbirth.
  • The School Health Service consists of a team of doctors and nurses who provide screening services for developmental conditions as well as monitoring of child health and well-being in all State and Church Schools in Malta and Gozo.
  • The Scoliosis Review Clinic provides regular reviews of children and adolescents noted to have mild scoliosis during screening campaigns.
  • Well Woman Clinics: These include the Gynaecology, Antenatal, Postnatal and Maternal Health Needs Assessment Clinics.
