Catchment Area

Gzira Health Centre offers its services mainly to residents of Gzira, Msida, Sliema, Ta’Xbiex, Kappara , Pembroke, St Julians, San Gwann, Swieqi and Ibragg.

Opening days: Monday to Sunday as per below schedule:

 Week days – 7am – 8pm

 Saturday – 7am – 8pm (GP Service till 5pm)

Sunday and Public holidays –  7am – 8pm (GP Service till 5pm)

These clinics are run by an appointment system. This service offers mainly repeat prescriptions and blood pressure monitoring facility. You are advised to bring with you, the identity card and the white appointment booklet.

Blood Investigations Clinic

This is carried out from Monday to Saturday and is by appointment only.

You are advised to bring with you:

Change of Dressing Clinic

This service is available from 10am onwards and is by appointment.

Diabetes Clinic

This service is available from Monday to Friday.
This clinic is by appointment only.

-There is no need to fast before attending for this clinic

This clinic is held every Tuesday and is by appointment only.

General Practitioner Service

This service is available from Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm and Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 8am till 5pm.
At other times this service is provided from Floriana Health Centre.

Well Woman Clinic (including Gynaecology, Antenatal, Post-Natal Clinics and Maternal Health Needs Assessment Clinic)

This clinic operates on Mondays: 8am to 12:45pm (by appointment).

Gynaecology: Referrals from Health Centre GP/Private GP.

To make an appointment please phone Call Centre (on 21231231 or 21222444) and bring Ticket of Referral/ID card with you on day of appointment.

Antenatal: Referred from Mater Dei Antenatal Clinic.

Postnatal: on discharge from Mater Dei Obstetric Unit (upon Mother’s request) an appointment will be sent by post from the Health Centre. Any queries regarding appointments please phone 21231231 or 21222444.

Maternal Health Needs Assessment Clinic: This clinic is run by Midwives. Every woman (antenatal or postnatal) will be seen by the Midwife prior to the visit by the Doctor.

Cervical Screening: referred from the National Cervical Screening Department.

House Visits Service

House visits can be carried out in certain cases when one is not in a position to attend to the Health Centre.
House visits are carried out from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. After 5pm, all visits are transferred to FHC to be performed form there.
At other times, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the service is available from Floriana Health Centre

Immediate Medical Care

This service is available from Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm and Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from 8am till 5pm.
At other times this service is provided from Floriana Health Centre

Immunisation Clinic

This clinic is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30am to 1.30pm.

Alternate Saturdays from 7.30am till noon.

To attend this clinic you are kindly requested to call the Health Centre for an appointment during clinic hours. No referrals are needed.
You are requested to bring the immunisation record for the nurse to update as well as the ID card of the parent accompanying the child or the adult client in accessing the service.
Childhood immunisations as recommended on the National Immunization Schedule are given free of charge to Maltese Residents.

Other vaccines prescribed by a doctor and purchased by Clients are administered free of charge upon presentation of the doctor’s prescription.

Medical Consultant Clinic

This clinic is open every Tuesday and Friday by appointment only – a ticket of referral is left at reception.

Medical Digital Imaging (X-Ray) Service

The Medical Digital Imaging service (X-Ray) at this health centre is offered from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2pm excluding public holidays.

Patients for X-Rays are either referred by the health centre doctor or by patients’s private doctor via computer network.

Nursing Services

This is available from Monday to Sunday between 7am till 8pm.
At other times, this service is provided from Floriana Health Centre​.

Ophthalmic Clinic

The eye care services are provided by the ophthalmologist, the optometrist and the ophthalmic nurse.
Services offered include:
-Glaucoma screening – Screening for high eye pressure
-Glaucoma clinic – Patients on treatment for glaucoma are seen every 6months or before by doctor/nurse
-Optometry – Eyesight testing as well as screening for the effect of diabetes on the eyes

The family doctor or the Health Centre doctor may refer you to this clinic. One can also be referred from the Diabetes Clinic or Mater Dei hospital; school children may be referred by the school health services. For glaucoma screening self referral is also acceptable.

Physiotherapy Clinic

Appointments for physiotherapy services are available

Monday to Friday 7:45 to 14:00-

Afternoon sessions are available at the Bkara & Mosta health centre.

from 15.45-19.00

Appointments can be made by phone on 21231231/21222444 or by visiting the health centre from 7:30 to 14:00.

Only clients who are 16+ and have a musculoskeletal condition are eligible to attend physiotherapy clinics at health centres.

Physiotherapy service also offers exercise classes:

Movement and Falls Prevention Classes to increase mobility, strength, balance.

Podiatry Clinic

This clinic is open from Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 1pm. Alternate Saturdays 8am to 1.00pm.

Services offered:
-Routine Podiatry clinic offering treatment for nails, corns, verrucae, and biomechanical assessments.
-Diabetic assessments on Wednesday
-A referral ticket is not required.

Follow-up appointments are set according to clinical need.
Routine cutting of toenails is performed only for High Risk patients, for any active nail pathologies, over 75 years old, or as deemed necessary by the podiatrist.

Speech Language Pathology Clinic

This service is available from Monday to Friday and is by appointment only.

Well Baby Clinic

Doctors from the Primary Child Health and Immunisation Unit carry out Well Baby Clinics in all Health Centres on a daily basis according to a fixed timetable. Mothers who deliver their babies at Mater Dei Hospital are invited to bring their baby to the Well Baby Clinic by appointment. These clinics serve the purpose of clinical examinations and developmental assessments for babies between the ages of 8 weeks and 18 months. Three routine visits are offered, the first being at 8 to12 weeks of age and then at 8 months and 18 months of age respectively.

This service is also offered to babies born in private hospitals or at home. In such cases, parents may phone the Client Support Unit on +356 21231231 or send an email on [email protected] requesting an appointment.
