Floriana Health Centre offers its services to residents of Floriana, Marsa, Hamrun, Pieta and St Venera.

Clients from Gzira Health Centre and Qormi Health Centre catchment areas requiring urgent GP services are to attend at Floriana Health Centre, when their respective Health Centres are not offering GP services.

Anticoagulant Clinic Point of Care

Monday to Friday: 8am to 11am by appointment.

Patients are referred from Mater Dei Hospital or from Health Centre GPs.

Patients on long-term Warfarin treatment may benefit from INR testing in the Point of Care (POC) Clinic.

Patients need to have a stable INR level to be eligible at attend POC.

A finger prick blood sample is taken. The result is immediately available and the patient is given a prescription with the required warfarin dose.

Diabetes Clinic

Monday to Friday: 8am – 1pm.

You may be referred to this clinic by the health centre doctor, your family doctor or from the Diabetes Clinic Mater Dei Hospital.

You will receive an appointment notice by post.
Follow-up appointments are given during visits.

ECG Clinic

This clinic is open every Wednesday morning, by appointment.

Patients from Kirkop Health Centre Catchment area are to attend Floriana Health Centre (by appointment) for ECG.

You may be referred for an ECG by your doctor who has to fill in a ticket of referral to a Government hospital/health centre, or by the Health Centre doctor who has to fill in a Health Centre ECG request form.

Please phone the Health Centre reception desk for an appointment between 10am and 8pm on weekdays.

The consultant physician will issue a report regarding your ECG.

Fibromyalgia Clinic

Clinic is open every Friday afternoon from 2pm to 6pm or 1pm to 5pm alternate weeks, by appointment.

New cases are referred from Mater Dei Hospital.

Follow-up appointments are given at the Health Centre Reception

The Fibromyalgia clinic is run in collaboration between the Primary Health Care Department and the Rheumatology Department at Mater Dei Hospital.

Glaucoma Screening

To attend this clinic you need to call the Health Centre for an appointment. No referrals are needed.

Screening is targeted at:

-people who are 45 years old or older
-people who are 35 years old or older who suffer from diabetes
-people who are 35 years or older and have a family history of diabetes and/or glaucoma.

This Clinic opens on Wednesdays from 8am to noon by appointment.

Newly diagnosed and follow up of Glaucoma patients are referred from Ophthalmologist, on Tuesdays.

GP Services

Floriana Health Centre is open 24/7 for immediate medical care;

Routine care service is available 8am to 8pm – No appointments required.

Medical Consultant Clinic

You may be referred to this clinic by the Health Centre doctor or your family doctor.

Kirkop and Gzira Health Centre clients are also to attend Floriana Health Centre for Medical Consultant appointments.

By appointment Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 8am and 11am

To make an appointment, please present the referral ticket at the reception desk. This will be vetted by the Consultant Physician, and you will be contacted back and an appointment date given.

Appointments for follow-ups and Schedule V are given as indicated by the physician according to clinical need.

The consultant running the clinic is Dr M Tilney, who may be assisted by doctors who are specialising.

Medical Digital Imaging (X-Ray) Service

The Medical Digital Imaging Service (X-Ray) at this health centre is offered from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 7pm, excluding public holidays.

The radiographer can be contacted on telephone number 21231231 or 21222444 between the above mentioned times.

The radiographer must be informed immediately if there is a possibility of pregnancy.

National Immunisation Services

Monday to Friday: 7.30am – 1.30pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 7.30am – noon.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 2.30pm – 7pm.

To attend this clinic you are kindly requested to call the Health Centre for an appointment during clinic hours. No referrals are needed.
You are requested to bring the immunisation record for the nurse to update.
Childhood immunisations as recommended on the National Immunization Schedule are given free of charge to Maltese Residents.

Other vaccines prescribed by a doctor and purchased by Clients are administered free of charge.

The Travel Immunization Clinic offers travel health information and vaccination services for people travelling abroad.

Nursing Services

We cater for walk-in emergencies not suspected to need hospital emergency care: open 24/7

An appointment is required for:

Ophthalmic Clinic

Monday to Friday and Sunday: all services by appointment

The following ophthalmic services are offered at Floriana Health Centre:
Glaucoma Clinic for newly diagnosed and follow-up of Glaucoma patients referred by ophthalmic nurses (Alternate Tuesdays – by ophthalmologist).

Glaucoma Clinic by specialised nurses for stabilised glaucoma patients – (Mondays and alternate Tuesdays).

Refraction (visual acuity/ghan-nuccali) by optometrist – (Wednesdays)

Screening for diabetic retinopathy (damage to the eye as a result of diabetes) – referred by GP – (Mondays QHC patients, Tuesdays GHC patients, Wednesdays PHC patients, Thursdays FHC patients)

Glaucoma screening (Fridays): No referrals are needed. Screening is targeted at:

-people who are 40 years old or older
-people who are 35 years or older who suffer from diabetes
-people who are 35 years old or older and have a family history of diabetes and/or glaucoma.

Physiotherapy Clinic

Clinic hours
Appointments for physiotherapy services are available
-Monday to Friday 7:45 to 14:00
-Alternate Saturdays 7:45 to 11:30
-Afternoon sessions are available in Floriana health centre.

Appointments may be made by phone on 21231231 or 21222444 from 7:30 to 14:00 or by visiting the health centre with the referral.

Only clients who are 16+ and have a musculoskeletal condition are eligible to attend physiotherapy clinics at health centres.

Retinopathy / glaucoma screening is performed every Sunday from 7.30.am to 3.30pm.

Plaster Services

Some particular fractures may be treated at the Health Centre, after consultation with orthopaedic specialists from Mater Dei Hospital. In such cases, a plaster back slab may be applied and the patient is then given a follow-up appointment at Mater Dei Fresh Trauma Clinic.

Monday – Saturday: 8am – 7pm.

Podiatry Clinic

Routine Podiatry treatments:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 8am – 2.15pm.
Tuesdays: 8am – 7.15pm

This clinic is by appointment. A referral is not required. Please call our reception desk for an appointment between 10am till 8 pm on weekdays.

Vascular Screening Clinic:

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 8am – 1pm
Thursday: 8am – 10am

Referral by podiatrist.
Follow-up appointments are set according to clinical need.
Routine cutting of toenails are performed only in conditions that warrant the treatment from a qualified Podiatrist as listed hereunder:
-High risk patients which are those with vascular insufficiency, peripheral diabetic neuropathy and/or those on anti-coagulant medications.
-An active nail pathology
A history of hip replacement within the previous 6 months
Mentally infirm patients
-A history of vertebra slipped disk, spine lesions and trauma, and neurological conditions
-On chemotherapy/immunosuppressants
-Physical disability as defined after an assessment and appropriate medical evidence shown
-Any other case deemed necessary after assessment by a podiatrist

Schedule V Clinic

Free medication for the treatment and control of chronic conditions as listed in Schedule V of the Social Security Act. You may be referred to this clinic by the Health Centre doctor or family doctor.

Please call the reception desk for an appointment.

Schedule V cards issued from the Departments of Surgery, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and Psychiatry at St Luke’s Hospital can only be renewed by the same department and cannot be renewed at the Health Centre.

If you are still attending the Medical Outpatients Clinic at Mater Dei Hospital on a regular basis, your Schedule V card issue and renewal should be obtained from your consultant at the Medical Outpatients and not from the Health Centre.

New cases by appointment. Please bring Ticket of Referral to Reception. You will received an appointment by post.

Scoliosis Review Clinic

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 4pm – 7pm (by appointment).

Referrals to the clinic are from doctors from the School Health Services (following scoliosis screening in schools), or by doctors from Health Centres or Private Practice.

Children and adolescents with mild scoliosis are monitored on a regular basis and advice and treatment given.

Speech Language Clinic

This clinic is open from Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 3:30pm.

Well Baby Clinic

Monitoring and recording of children’s development and advice on immunisation and feeding.

After your baby is born, you will automatically be referred from the Post-Natal Ward at Mater Dei Hospital. If your baby was born at a private clinic or hospital, you can still phone for an appointment at the clinic.

Routine visits are necessary when your baby is:

-6 – 10 weeks old
-8 months old
-18 months old.

These visits require an appointment which you will receive from the Well Baby Clinic.

The 6-10 week examination is usually booked on the same day as the first vaccination is due.

Please bring the ‘Baby’s Book’ you are given at the Post-Natal Ward and the Parent’s ID card.

If the Parent cannot accompany the Child, a written consent from the Parent should be brought by the accompanying person together with both the Parent`s ID card and that of the accompanying person. This letter will be kept by the Nurse.

This Clinic opens on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8am to 3pm.

Between 12:30pm and 2pm parents may call to check their baby’s weight.

Well Woman Clinic (including Gynaecology, Antenatal, Post-Natal Clinics and Maternal Health Needs Assessment Clinic)

This clinic operates on Tuesdays: 8am to 12:45pm (by appointment).

Gynaecology: Referrals from Health Centre GP/Private GP.

To make an appointment please phone Call Centre (on 21231231 or 21222444) and bring Ticket of Referral/ID card with you on day of appointment.

Antenatal: Referred from Mater Dei Antenatal Clinic.

Postnatal: on discharge from Mater Dei Obstetric Unit (upon Mother’s request) an appointment will be sent by post from the Health Centre. Any queries regarding appointments please phone 21231231 or 21222444.

Maternal Health Needs Assessment Clinic: This clinic is run by Midwives. Every woman (antenatal or postnatal) will be seen by the Midwife prior to the visit by the Doctor.

Cervical Screening: referred from the National Cervical Screening Department.

Wound Clinic

Monday to Saturday: 10.30am – 6:45pm

Sundays & Public Holidays: 8am – 6:45pm.
