Crucial to the running of the Shared Care Diabetes Program is a good IT system. This system has been developed by Professor Joseph Azzopardi over many years of research. It forms part of a data base building project, the European Shared Diabetes information system.
Doctors receive training specifically on use of this software and are given personal passwords to be able to access the system. GP’s running the clinic input the data during the clinical session. From time to time this data entry is checked and if it is found that anyone has entered false information he or she is immediately excluded from the program and access denied.
This system also allows for online consultation with respective consultants at Mater Dei and advice on management is given without the need to refer patients for appointments.
